Whether during a garage cleanup or while reorganizing, forgotten treasures often resurface. Jewelry, in particular, has a knack for disappearing and reappearing in strange ways—like earrings under refrigerators or rings lodged in shoes. But one woman’s story tops them all: she found her missing engagement ring 13 years later—on a carrot.

A Remarkable Discovery

Mary Grams, an 84-year-old from Canada, lost her diamond engagement ring more than two decades ago while weeding on her family farm in Alberta. Heartbroken, she confided in only one person—her son—and believed the ring was gone forever. Life went on, and the memory of the ring slowly faded.

Fast forward to 2023, when Mary’s daughter-in-law, Colleen Daley, was harvesting carrots in the same garden. As she pulled up a peculiarly twisted carrot, she spotted something shimmering: a diamond ring embedded on the carrot, as if the vegetable had been wearing it all along.

A Bittersweet Moment

Mary reflected on the bittersweet discovery, expressing regret for never telling her late husband about the loss. “He would have gotten a kick out of it,” she said. Her husband passed away eight years before the ring was found. Now that the ring is back in her possession, she’s made a promise to herself: “If I’m going outside, I’ll put it in a safe place.”

This Isn’t the First Time

Surprisingly, this isn’t the only time a ring has been discovered on a carrot. In Sweden, Lena Paahlsson lost her wedding ring in 1995 while baking. Despite searching for years—even during kitchen renovations—she eventually gave up hope.

Sixteen years later, while harvesting carrots in her garden, Lena spotted her white gold band, complete with seven diamonds, wrapped around a carrot. “The carrot was sprouting in the middle of the ring. It’s quite incredible,” her husband Ola shared.

The couple suspected that the ring had accidentally fallen into vegetable scraps and was either composted or fed to animals. Overjoyed by its return, Lena planned to resize the ring so she could wear it again.

Lost Treasures Have a Way of Returning

These remarkable stories remind us that sometimes, lost treasures find their way back to us—often in the most unexpected ways.

It’s not uncommon for people to stumble upon long-lost items in the most unexpected places.
