Mom’s Flat Apple Pie – This is a great pie for a picnic or potluck. You can pick it up and eat it with your hands. No gooey, drippy mess, but super moist!! The picture that I posted is one of the pictures of the pie my “little” brother made. He is such a great cook as well.
Ingredients:
3 3/4 c all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 c shortening

2-3 handfuls of Corn Flakes
10 Granny Smith apples, sliced and cored
4-8 Tbsp butter, cubed
1 c sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 egg
1 tsp sugar
THIN FROSTING:
2/3 c powered sugar
2-3 dash vanilla extract
milk, enough for a thin frosting
How to Make Mom’s Flat Apple Pie:
Test Kitchen Tips: We used a 15×10-inch cookie sheet pan for baking. Also, you could do anywhere between 8-10 apples depending on their size. We only used 8 while testing.
- Mix ingredients for crust (which are the first 4 ingredients on the list).
- Roll out half of the dough to fit a cookie sheet.
- Sprinkle with Corn Flakes.
- Place sliced apples on top of Corn Flakes.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top of apples. Dot with butter.
- Add top crust to cover.
- Beat egg white and sugar and brush on top of pie. Cut a few slits in the top of the pie crust.
Mom’s Flat Apple Pie - Bake at 425 degrees F for 25-30 mintues.
- Mix powered sugar, vanilla and enough milk to make a thin frosting. Drizzle over hot pie.
