Patty Melt

Written by Admin

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef
4 slices of rye bread
4 slices of Swiss cheese
1 large onion, thinly sliced
4 tbsp unsalted butter
Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

Prepare the Patties:

Season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form the beef into 4 equal-sized patties.
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties until they are fully cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Caramelize the Onions:

In another skillet, melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions.
Sauté the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat.
Assemble the Sandwiches:

Butter one side of each slice of rye bread with the remaining 2 tbsp of butter.
Place one slice of Swiss cheese on the unbuttered side of each slice of bread.
Place a cooked beef patty on top of the cheese.
Top the patty with caramelized onions and then place the remaining slice of Swiss cheese on top of the onions.
Close the sandwich with another slice of bread, buttered side out.
Grill the Sandwiches:

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Grill each sandwich until the bread is toasted and golden brown, and the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Press down lightly with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
Serve:

Cut the sandwiches in half and serve immediately.
